She welcomed loneliness.

She welcomed loneliness
She welcomed loneliness as his harsh fist pounded her ever fearing heart.
His heavy breathing could be heard through any wall and could penetrate any buried fear.
To open this door would be the death of her.
To hide in the corner with eyes shut would be the death of us all.
With hands blue as the jay and eyes red as the cardinal, they cried a note as the girl opened the door.
Head nailed to the ground, she shuttered at the cold shadow standing over her.
The cabin fire was stolen by this crafty thief in the night and all went dark.

With a terrifying scare, the innocent one darted to the nearest corner, tripping with her first step.
She lay silent on the floor. The girl was the fish stunned in the numbing grip of the jellyfish’s tentacles.
She winced as she heard his dark, raspy chuckle- the most unbearable wickedness ever known.
He stomped his feet with the snow powdered to his boots.
The sound of emptiness echoed the chambers of her heart as he slammed the door.
Not a hint of life, not one stitch of compassion or pity crossed his countenance.
Removing his gloves glazed in ice, his feet sliced back and forth on the old rug.

She cowered while watching him untie his knotted scarf around her neck, his neck.
There. There he stood over the child of no more smiles. That monster whose nostrils exhaled sulfur
And whose lips spewed poison in the air.
She felt the all the insects and evil presence crawl out from the walls around me.
Man’s captor had come for man’s life.

Dear friends, do not be deceived. Loneliness does not seek a moment of your life.
Loneliness seeks and chokes you by the throat, intending every sign of death.

With the slowest of movements, he kneeled down to reach her eyes. Their eyes locked.
With a glare that never ceased, he grabbed every hope within that second.
Loneliness promised her company along with this misery. She thought.
She no longer believed the company had come to fellowship with her and misery.

Loneliness caressed her cheek with rough fingers that resembled sandpaper.
He tucked the curls behind ears of white and wiped the rivers channeled from eyes of restlessness.
She remained silent yet began to stutter pointless, ransom breaths as he wrapped his arms ‘round her.
Confusion and fury flushed and raced through the girl’s veins and dizzied her very comprehension.
Yet, no matter. She thought to herself. There are arms around me.
To her, It did not matter whose set of arms those were. They held her tight with purpose and concern.
She was still aware of the monster purring in her ear yet still aware of its care for her in the moment.
Moments of stillness, silence, and embrace carried long into the night.
That monster with sulfur and poisoned breath kept and blanketed the girl with no more smiles.
She claimed in mind and heart that he was friend, no foe.

Silence was broken as his sharp, broken voice questioned her.
“Will you be my faithful companion till time meets no end?
I will give you my attention, my touch, my protection, and my company
If only you give me this, your heart and your loyalty to me?”

With such sincere words her heart was wooed and frightened by the threat of the unknown.
And her silence frustrated his temper and patience. His grip tightened around the frail girl.
His claws… began to grow excitedly with anger as she remained quiet, searching for a response.
She could no longer breathe and began to ache with the most deep, excruciating pain.
The monster Loneliness no longer caressed her figure yet choked her very neck, claws in tack.
She struggled to spew the words of her approval. Yet, it no longer mattered.

The trap was set. This union between monster and girl was never intended to end in love and life.
This union was always destined and intended with a pun of death, a knife to her chest.
With nails clawing Loneliness’ face and neck, the girl slowly gave up a fight never purposed to win.
Her body slowly crept down to the puddle of red poison generously sleeping on the floor.
The monster laughed in disgust and licked the knife with a terrifying pleasure.
With swift movements of pride and success, he swung the door open into the bitter darkness of night.
The monster Loneliness stepped out into his game. One down. The rest to destroy.

Dear friends, do not be deceived. Loneliness does not seek a moment of your life.
Loneliness seeks and chokes you by the throat, intending every sign of death.
